Just a Charioteer in Fulfilling Divine Dream’: LK Advani’s Take on Ram Temple Inauguration
January 13, 2024 | by indiatoday360.com

A Historic Moment
The inauguration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya on January 22, 2024, is a historic moment for India and the world. It marks the culmination of a long and arduous struggle for the restoration of the birthplace of Lord Ram, the revered deity of millions of Hindus. It also symbolizes the triumph of faith, justice and harmony over hatred, violence and bigotry.
A Divine Dream
For me, personally, it is the fulfillment of a divine dream that I had cherished since my childhood. I was born in Karachi, now in Pakistan, where I grew up listening to stories of Ramayana from my mother. I was deeply inspired by the ideals and values of Lord Ram, who exemplified righteousness, courage and compassion. I also developed a strong attachment to Ayodhya, the holy city where he was born and ruled.
A Charioteer’s Role
When I joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 1980, I was fortunate to be part of a movement that aimed to liberate Ram Janmabhoomi from illegal occupation and build a grand temple there. I participated in several rallies, campaigns and events to mobilize public support for this cause. In 1990, I undertook a Rath Yatra from Somnath to Ayodhya, which galvanized the masses and awakened their consciousness. However, I never considered myself as the leader or the hero of this movement. I always felt that I was just a charioteer, who was chosen by Lord Ram to serve his divine mission. The real leader and hero was the chariot itself, which represented the collective will and aspiration of crores of Ram bhakts.
A Grateful Acknowledgement
Today, as I witness the inauguration of the Ram Temple, I feel humbled and grateful to Lord Ram for giving me this opportunity to be a part of his glorious saga. I also express my gratitude to all those who sacrificed their lives, limbs and liberty for this noble cause. I salute the saints, seers and social workers who guided and supported this movement with their wisdom and dedication. I congratulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has fulfilled his promise to build a magnificent temple at Ram Janmabhoomi. I commend the Supreme Court, which delivered a historic verdict in favour of the temple construction. And I thank the people of India, who have shown remarkable patience, tolerance and maturity throughout this long journey.
A Vision for Future
The inauguration of the Ram Temple is not only an end but also a beginning. It is a beginning of a new era of peace, prosperity and harmony in India and beyond. It is a beginning of a new chapter of cultural renaissance and national integration in India. It is a beginning of a new journey of spiritual awakening and social transformation in India. As we celebrate this auspicious occasion, let us resolve to follow the footsteps of Lord Ram and uphold his ideals and values in our personal and public lives. Let us also resolve to spread his message of love, justice and service to all humanity. Jai Shri Ram!
