The Tata Sanand plant in Gujarat, India, has reached a remarkable achievement of rolling out 1 million cars from its facility. The plant produces the popular Tiago and Tigor models, along with their respective AMT, CNG, EV and fleet versions.

Sanand plant: A pioneer in EVs and CNG cars

The Sanand plant is one of the youngest and most advanced plants of Tata Motors. It has a state-of-the-art technology across all its processes, including a press line, weld shop, paint shop, assembly line and powertrain shop. The plant also has a flexible assembly line that can produce automatic, CNG and all-electric versions of the Tiago and Tigor. The Sanand plant was the first Tata Motors factory to produce CNG and electric cars .

The plant has also been instrumental in Tata Motors’ leadership in the electric vehicle segment. In December 2017, the plant rolled out the first batch of electric Tigor sedans as part of its order to supply electric vehicles to the government-run Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL). The plant currently produces 40% electric and petrol powertrains each, and 20% CNG powertrains.

Sanand plant: A key contributor to Tata Motors’ growth

The Sanand plant has been pivotal in bolstering Tata Motors’ growth story in India by responding to market needs promptly. The plant has achieved the production milestone of 1 million cars in less than five-and-a-half years after producing its fifth lakh car in October 2018. This reflects the increasing demand and popularity of Tata Motors’ products among consumers.

The Sanand plant contributes to 20% of Tata Motors’ total car production. The installed capacity of the plant has risen from 1.35 lakh in 2010 to 1.9 lakh cars today. The plant is currently running at 70% of its installed capacity. Tata Motors expects to sell 5.75 lakh cars in FY2024, including 75,000 EVs.

Sanand plant: A responsible corporate citizen

The Sanand plant is not only a manufacturing hub but also a responsible corporate citizen. The plant is committed to making its operations green and sustainable. It already sources 50% of its power consumption from renewable sources, and plans to achieve 100% green energy in the next three years.

The plant also engages in various corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives that have touched over 3 lakh lives in and around Sanand. The CSR activities focus on areas such as education, health, environment, skill development and women empowerment.

The Tata Sanand plant is a shining example of Tata Motors’ vision of providing safer, smarter and greener mobility solutions to its customers. The plant has set high standards for quality, efficiency and innovation in the automotive industry. The one-millionth car rollout is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the employees, suppliers, channel partners and the government of Gujarat who have supported the plant’s journey.
