Karigar Mela by Amazon India: Boosting Artisans, Weavers

Amazon India announced the return of its bi-annual Karigar Mela today, April 11, 2024. This online event celebrates and empowers Indian artisans and weavers, with a special focus on sustainable practices within the handmade industry for 2024.

A Platform for Artisans and Sustainable Craftsmanship

The Karigar Mela 2024 theme, “Thriving Sustainability with Handmade,” reflects Amazon India’s commitment to promoting eco-friendly and responsible craft practices. Over 2,000 seller participants will showcase a diverse range of more than 2 lakh sustainable handcrafted products on the Amazon India marketplace. This provides a wider audience for artisans, estimated to impact over 18 lakh artisans according to Amazon India, and a chance for consumers to discover unique, eco-conscious craft items.

Supporting Artisans and Preserving Tradition

Launched in 2017, the Amazon Karigar program empowers small businesses and micro-entrepreneurs like weavers and artisans. By providing a platform for online sales and waiving selling fees, Karigar Mela helps revive traditional art forms, promotes local artisans, and fosters sustainable practices within the handmade sector.
