March 4, 2024 | by indiatoday360.com
The government of India has launched a new portal called Chakshu to help citizens report suspected fraud communications received through calls, SMS or WhatsApp messages. The portal is part of the Sanchar Saathi initiative, which aims to empower mobile subscribers and increase their security and awareness.
What is Chakshu?
Chakshu is a platform that facilitates citizens to report any suspected fraud communication with the intention of defrauding telecom service users for cyber-crime, financial frauds, non-bonafide purpose like impersonation or any other misuse. Some examples of suspected fraud communications are:
- Communication related to bank account, payment wallet, SIM, gas connection, electricity connection, KYC update, expiry or deactivation.
- Impersonation as government official, relative or friend.
- Sextortion or blackmailing related communication.
How to use Chakshu?
Citizens can access Chakshu through the Sanchar Saathi portal (https://sancharsaathi.gov.in/sfc/) or by scanning the QR code on the website. They can report any suspected fraud communication received within the last 30 days by providing details such as:
- The phone number or WhatsApp number from which the communication was received.
- The date and time of the communication.
- The type of communication (call, SMS or WhatsApp message).
- The content of the communication (text, audio or image).
- The reason for reporting the communication.
The portal will generate a unique reference number for each report and send an acknowledgement to the user. The user can also track the status of their report by entering the reference number on the portal.
What are the benefits of Chakshu?
Chakshu will help in:
- Identifying and blocking fraudulent numbers and messages.
- Alerting and educating users about common fraud schemes and how to avoid them.
- Providing data and insights to law enforcement agencies for investigation and action.
- Enhancing the security and privacy of mobile users.
Chakshu is a citizen-centric initiative that aims to protect mobile users from fraudsters and cyber-criminals. By reporting suspected fraud communications, citizens can contribute to making the telecom sector safer and more transparent.
