CNG prices in Delhi and NCR have been slashed by Rs 2.5 per kg by Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), the state-run company that supplies CNG and piped natural gas in the region. The price reduction is due to the decrease in gas input cost, which is linked to the international market.
New CNG prices
The revised selling price of CNG in Delhi shall be Rs 74.09 per kg, down from Rs 76.59 per kg, IGL announced on Wednesday. The new prices will be effective from 6 am on March 7.
In Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad, the CNG prices have been reduced from Rs 81.20 per kg to Rs 78.70 per kg. In Gurugram, the new price of CNG will be Rs 80.12 per kg, down from Rs 82.62 per kg.
In Rewari and Karnal, the CNG prices have also been cut by Rs 2.5 per kg to Rs 78.70 and Rs 80.43 respectively.
Impact of CNG price cut
The reduction in CNG prices will benefit over 12 lakh vehicles that run on CNG in Delhi and NCR, including buses, taxis, autos and private cars.
IGL said that the price cut will also improve the economics of CNG as compared to petrol and diesel, which are more expensive and polluting fuels.
According to IGL, CNG offers savings of about 52% over petrol and 21% over diesel at current price levels in Delhi.
IGL also said that it is committed to promote clean and green fuel in its areas of operation and provide the best services to its customers.
MGL also cuts CNG prices
IGL’s decision to slash CNG prices came after Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL), the state-run company that supplies CNG and piped natural gas in Mumbai and its adjoining areas, also reduced the CNG prices by Rs 2.5 per kg to Rs 73.50 per kg on Tuesday.
MGL said that the price cut was due to the reduction in gas input cost MGL is pleased to announce a reduction in CNG price by Rs 2.5/Kg in and around Mumbai,\” the company said, adding that MGL’s CNG price now offers attractive savings of 53% compared to petrol and 22% compared to diesel at current price levels in Mumbai.
MGL also said that the reduction in CNG price would help to increase the consumption of natural gas in the transportation segment, which is a step towards making India cleaner and greener.
