Indra Water, a smart water treatment systems provider, has raised $4 million in a Series A round led by Mela Ventures and Emerald Technology Ventures. The round also saw participation from Peak Sustainability Ventures and The Climate Angels.

Indra Water was founded in 2017 by Amrit Om Nayak and Krunal Patel, who have backgrounds in chemical engineering and environmental engineering respectively. The startup aims to solve the problem of water treatment in the industrial and sewage segment with its patented electro-chemical oxidation and coagulation process.

The startup claims that its technology can treat wastewater from various sources such as textile, dairy, food processing, pharmaceutical, chemical, and municipal sectors. The treated water can be reused for non-potable applications such as gardening, flushing, cooling towers, and irrigation.

According to a 2022 Frost & Sullivan report, the Indian water and wastewater treatment market will grow to $2.08 billion by 2025 from $1.31 billion in 2020. The report also highlighted the need for decentralized and modular solutions that can cater to the diverse needs of different industries and regions.

Indra Water’s solutions are designed to be economical, compact, smart, and scalable. The startup claims that its systems can reduce water consumption by up to 80%, save energy by up to 90%, and reduce sludge generation by up to 95%. The startup also offers remote monitoring and control features through its cloud-based platform.

The startup plans to use the fresh funds to expand its product portfolio, increase its manufacturing capacity, and strengthen its sales and service network. The startup also aims to enter new markets such as Southeast Asia, Middle East, and Africa.

The investors expressed their confidence in Indra Water’s vision and technology. Mela Ventures’ co-founder Bala Parthasarathy said, “We are excited to partner with Indra Water as they address one of the most pressing problems of our times – water scarcity. Their innovative technology has the potential to transform the water treatment industry and create a positive impact on the environment and society.”

Emerald Technology Ventures’ partner Gina Domanig said, “Indra Water has developed a unique solution that combines electro-chemical processes with smart software to deliver high-quality water treatment at a low cost. We are impressed by the team’s deep technical expertise and strong customer traction. We look forward to supporting them in their growth journey.”

Indra Water’s co-founder and CEO Amrit Om Nayak said, “We are delighted to have the backing of such reputed investors who share our vision of building a sustainable future through smart water management. With their support, we aim to scale our operations, reach new customers, and create more value for our stakeholders.”
