Benefits of Dwarka Expressway
Dwarka Expressway is expected to bring several benefits to the commuters, residents and businesses of Delhi NCR region. Some of the major benefits are:
- It will reduce the travel time between Delhi and Gurugram by half, from 45 minutes to 20 minutes.
- It will decongest the traffic on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway, which witnesses over 3 lakh vehicles daily.
- It will improve the connectivity between Indira Gandhi International Airport and Gurugram Bypass.
- It will boost the real estate development along the corridor, creating more housing and commercial opportunities.
- It will reduce the vehicular pollution and noise in the region, improving the air quality and health of the people.
Features of Dwarka Expressway
Dwarka Expressway is a state-of-the-art highway that has several unique features that make it a model urban expressway. Some of the key features are:
- It is an entirely access-controlled, grade-separated 14-lane expressway, with 8 lanes on the main carriageway and 3 lanes on each service road.
- It has India’s first 4 km long 8-lane tunnel near IGI airport, which is a shallow tunnel that does not require tunnel boring machines.
- It has an interchange at Shiv Murti near Mahipalpur, which comprises two underpasses beneath the existing NH 48, integrated with an elevated corridor.
- It has several flyovers, underpasses, bridges and ROBs to ensure seamless movement of traffic across different levels.
- It has smart features such as CCTV cameras, variable message signs, automatic number plate recognition system, emergency call boxes and weigh-in-motion sensors.
Future of Dwarka Expressway
Dwarka Expressway is not just a highway, but a vision for the future of urban mobility in India. The project is part of the Centre’s Rs 60,000 crore highway development plan in the NCR, which aims to build next-generation infrastructure for the region. PM Modi also laid the foundation stone for 112 National Highway projects across the country, collectively worth about Rs 1 lakh crore, on Monday. These projects will enhance connectivity, economic growth and social development in India.
Dwarka Expressway is a landmark achievement for India’s highway sector and a testament to PM Modi’s commitment to building a new India. The expressway will transform the lives of millions of people who travel between Delhi and Gurugram every day.
