Swiggy, one of the leading online food delivery platforms in India, has announced a collaboration with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) to provide food delivery services at four railway stations in the country. The service will be available through IRCTC’s e-catering portal, where passengers can pre-order their meals from Swiggy’s extensive restaurant network and get them delivered at their preferred station.
How it works
Passengers can avail the food delivery service by entering their PNR on the IRCTC app and selecting the station where they want their food delivered. They can then choose from a variety of cuisines and dishes offered by Swiggy’s partner restaurants and place their order. Swiggy will deliver the food to the passengers at the designated station within the stipulated time.
Benefits for passengers and restaurants
The food delivery service will offer convenience and choice to the passengers, who can enjoy their favourite food while travelling on trains. It will also help them avoid long queues and unhygienic food at railway stations. The service will also benefit the restaurant operators, who can reach out to a large customer base and increase their sales.
Expansion plans
The food delivery service will be launched on March 12 at four railway stations – Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Vijayawada, and Visakhapatnam. These are among the busiest railway stations in India, with a high volume of passenger traffic. Swiggy plans to extend the service to 59 more railway stations in the coming weeks, covering major cities and towns across the country.
A milestone for Swiggy and IRCTC
The collaboration between Swiggy and IRCTC marks a milestone for both the entities, as they aim to enhance the customer experience and satisfaction. Swiggy CEO Rohit Kapoor said, “We are hopeful of a buoyant response from passengers and restaurant operators on this route, which will hopefully lead to us providing services on more stations and on newer routes.” IRCTC Chairman and Managing Director Sanjay Kumar Jain said, “This partnership with Swiggy will bring more convenience and food options to our passengers, making their journeys more memorable.”
