Zooom, the domestic airline formerly known as Zoom Air, has resumed its operations in India after more than five years of hiatus. The airline launched its first passenger flight from Delhi to Ayodhya on January 31, 2024, using a Bombardier CRJ200ER aircraft. The flight marks the comeback of Zooom in the Indian aviation market, which has seen a surge in domestic air travel demand in recent years.
Delhi-Ayodhya: A Spiritual Connection
Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Rama, is one of the most revered pilgrimage destinations in India. The city has witnessed a boost in tourism after the construction of the Ram Temple, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in August 2020. Zooom aims to cater to the spiritual needs of the travelers by connecting them to Ayodhya from Delhi, the national capital and a major hub for domestic and international flights.
According to Zooom’s Chief Executive Officer, Atul Gambhir, the new flight services intend to link people, cultures, and regions to the spiritual hub of Ayodhya. He also expressed his commitment to improving regional connectivity in India by supporting the Government’s Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS-UDAN), which offers subsidized fares and incentives for airlines to operate on underserved routes. He said that Zooom plans to explore new routes and expand its network to include more tier-2 cities in the future.
Zooom: A Cost-Effective and Convenient Option
Zooom claims to offer a cost-effective and convenient solution for regional travel needs in India. The airline focuses on enhancing the customer experience and providing flexible schedules for quality-conscious passengers. The airline also boasts of having a young and efficient fleet of Bombardier CRJ200ER aircraft, which can seat up to 50 passengers and have a range of up to 3,000 km.
Zooom operates thrice a week on the Delhi-Ayodhya route, with fares starting from Rs. 3,999. The flight departs from Delhi at 10:30 am and arrives in Ayodhya at 11:45 am. The return flight leaves Ayodhya at 12:15 pm and reaches Delhi at 1:30 pm. The airline also offers complimentary snacks and beverages on board.
Zooom hopes to regain its foothold in the Indian aviation sector with its relaunch and expansion plans. The airline faces competition from other players like IndiGo, SpiceJet, Air India, and GoAir, which also operate on various domestic routes. However, Zooom believes that its niche offering and customer-centric approach will help it stand out from the crowd.
