Maruti Suzuki Increases Swift, Grand Vitara Prices

April 12, 2024 | by indiatoday360.com

Maruti Suzuki, India’s leading carmaker, implemented a price hike for its popular Swift hatchback and select variants of its Grand Vitara SUV. This comes into effect as of April 10, 2024, marking the second price increase for the company in 2024.

Swift Price Increase

The Maruti Suzuki Swift sees a significant price increase of up to ₹25,000 across its variants. This puts the hatchback in a new price range of ₹5.99 lakh to ₹8.89 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Swift remains a strong contender in the hatchback segment, but the price hike might nudge some buyers towards competitors like the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios or the Tata Tiago.

Grand Vitara Price Increase

The price hike for the Grand Vitara is more targeted, affecting only the Sigma variant. This particular variant sees an increase of ₹19,000, bringing its revised price to ₹10.8 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). While the Grand Vitara offers a feature-packed cabin and a mild-hybrid powertrain option, the price hike could put it closer to competitors like the Hyundai Creta or the Kia Seltos, potentially influencing buying decisions.

Reasoning Behind the Price Hike

Maruti Suzuki cites rising input costs as the primary reason behind the price increase. This aligns with a broader trend in the Indian automobile industry. In January 2024, the carmaker announced a price hike across its entire product range by an average of 0.45%. Similar moves have been implemented by other manufacturers like Kia India, which announced a price increase of up to 3% across its product lineup in April due to rising input costs.

Impact on Consumers

The price hike for the Swift and Grand Vitara may impact consumer buying decisions. Potential buyers might consider exploring alternative options in the hatchback and SUV segments, especially considering the increased competition. However, Maruti Suzuki’s brand reputation, widespread service network, and fuel-efficient engines could still hold appeal for many customers, particularly those who prioritize value and practicality.
